He ain’t Heavy, He’s my Brother or Sister!

The readings today talk of forgiveness and changing the way we live to live more like Christ taught us.

In the first reading we learn that if a wicked man turns his life around then he can save it, if a virtuous man changes to a wicked state he can lose it. In Mathew’s Gospel reading we are taught to settle differences quickly with our brothers and sisters least we stand before God who will be our final judge. While meditating over these thoughts an old song came to mind. I will use it to help explain my feelings:

The road is long  – life seems long as we look forward but extremely short when we look back at it
With many a winding turn – every fork in the road of life gives us choices and depending on these choices the road winds around pleasure and hardship
That leads us to who knows where – Our choices have consequences
Who knows when – Only God knows when he will call us
But I’m strong – As long as I have God in my heart I know he will carry me through the tough times
Strong enough to carry him – And with God’s help I promise to help my brothers and sisters through their challenges
He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother –We are in this life to help each other

So on we go – Every day is a new beginning and a new chance to turn our lives to God
His welfare is of my concern – God wants us to help each other work our way to his heavenly glory
No burden is he to bear – God’s ways may seem out of the ordinary in today’s world but they are not out of touch with life
We’ll get there – With God’s grace through prayer we can arrive in heaven together
For I know – Christ died on the cross to free us from the binds of sin
He would not encumber me – Through this freedom from sin we can see a better world around us filled with peace and love
He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother – We are in this life to help each other

If I’m laden at all – When my heart is heavy with the pain of sin
I’m laden with sadness – I am missing God’s grace and feel like I am in a dark tunnel
That everyone’s heart – It’s hard to see the good in the world when our hearts are covered with sin
Isn’t filled with the gladness – When sin has a hold of me I feel alone and in despair
Of love for one another – When under the influence of sin I miss the true feeling of joy and love

It’s a long, long road – Life is full of choices
From which there is no return – We cannot relive the past in this life
While we’re on the way to there – If we find ourselves feeling alone and in the darkness of sin
Why not share – Take that heaviness to Christ and ask for forgiveness
And the load –  Christ died on the cross to set us free from sin, to release us from that dark tunnel of loneliness
Doesn’t weigh me down at all – Once free of this pain of sin we begin life anew sharing the love of God with each other
He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother – We are in this life to help each other, go to God and ask for forgiveness, live life as he wants us to. Helping our brothers and sisters along the way. Spreading his words and love with one another.

God bless you all and may you all find his Peace and Love,

You are not heavy, your my Brothers and Sisters.
